Brève description / annotation

This book explores the fi gure of Jesus at the intersection of theology, mythology, and philosophy, questioning both his historicity and symbolic construction. It highlights the interpretative tension between the Synoptic Gospels and the Gospel of John, understood as two complementary yet distinct modes of representation. This dual reading is articulated through an anabatic perspective, focused on the historical Jesus, and a katabatic perspective, centered on the incarnate Word. Together, they express a dynamic relation between history and eternity. Within this framework, Jesus is associated with universal solar archetypes, including the "Unconquered Sun" (Malachi 4:2) and the "light of the world." This symbolic dimension is extended to a symbiotic reading of mythological traditions in which certain fi gures function as mediating archetypes between the human and the divine. Accordingly, myth (nkani) is understood as a cathartic and interpretative structure for rethinking human existence. The Mvett tradition provides a conceptual foundation for this approach, introducing the idea of a luminous principle (Eyo) permeating all beings. Finally, the study situates biblical and African traditions within a broader process of interpretation and renewal, highlighting underexplored African sources such as the Mvett Ékang and calling for a reactivation of ancestral Afrikan knowledge systems burgeoning from Maat.
