Brève description / annotation
I'd like to refer to this collection of poems I've written over the years as a kind of unpacking - moments in my journey and my interpretation of the experiences. I also have a keen interest in psychology, though I'm no expert in the field. I'm just someone who finds human beings and our nature fascinating - so much so that I write poetry about them, and about myself. I haven't always been this interested in psychology, or at least I didn't know I was. It all started at a time in my life when I felt incredibly hurt and let down by someone, and I found myself asking, «Why are people such arseholes?» That throwaway rhetorical question ignited a curiosity I couldn't ignore. I actually needed to know the answer. I became obsessed with understanding why people do the things they do. I read books, watched lectures, and immersed myself completely. The more I learned, the more I found flaws in my own arguments and beliefs. I was confronted by my traumas and mirrors. Understanding why people are the way they are became the first step toward understanding myself. All of the poems in this book are divided into sections, each with its own summary. I also wrote brief notes on a few individual pieces that had more of a story behind them. Rarely do I share the context behind my poetry - I've always believed everything is already laid bare in the words themselves. But this time, I wanted the collection to feel personal. For you, the reader, to connect with the words a little more. Plus, I love stories. The thing about being a poet is that you just write - often without thinking of structure or order. It's not like creating an album; it's more like a series of singles. It's only when you start piecing them together that you begin to see a story forming. At least, that's how it was for me. Re-reading poems I wrote years ago - through different stages of my life, whether in happiness, sadness, loneliness, love, or fear - I realised I'd been documenting my own evolution. And now, I'm sharing that personal diary with you. It's up to you how you read this book. You might want to go from start to finish, chronologically, or dip in and out, taking what you need when you need it. Either way, I hope it becomes a book you return to. You may find that certain poems resonate differently depending on what you're going through. That's been the case for me - some pieces that once triggered pain now feel oddly comforting, like looking back at an angry version of yourself with empathy. In that sense, I suppose this poetry book is the closest thing I'll ever have to a time machine. I'd like to think I've done some growing through these words, and I hope there's something here for everyone's journey. If not yours personally, then perhaps someone's whom you'll understand a little better because of it. Above all, I hope you enjoy the journey. Oh, and about that question - why are people such arseholes? I found the answer. It's because it's in our nature to be. I'm also human. Therefore, I'm also an arsehole. Sometimes.
